Between October and early March, the resident-led Afton Park Place Community Projects Club helped support three local organizations and community services through a variety of fundraising initiatives.
Most recently, the club’s Popcorn for Pathways project helped raise money for Pathways Health Centre for Children, which provides rehabilitation and support services for children and youth across Lambton County who have physical, developmental and communication needs as well as their families.
On Feb. 28 and March 6, the club sold five different flavours of Kernels Popcorn, with residents working the sales desk between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and then again from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on both days.
There were 147 bags of popcorn sold and the proceeds will go to Pathways Health Centre for Children.
In November, the Community Projects Club helped collect clothing, such as mitts and hats, for the Salvation Army. Residents donated $220 to the charity as well.
In October, the club hosted a 50-50 draw to raise money for the Lunches for Learning program in Sarnia schools. The Lunches for Learning program – also called L4L – is an international program that brings together primary school students with volunteers to prepare meals for students.
“In a one-day sale there was $285 raised,” Afton Park Place life enrichment manager Stacy Petrie tells S&R Today.
The Afton Park Place Community Projects Club is a resident-led initiative that supports worthy causes in the local community. The members regularly meet to discuss initiatives they would like to support as well as come up with ideas to raise money.
