Near the front entrance of Westmount Gardens is a monument the London, Ont. long-term care community has created to honour its team members who have worked tirelessly to keep residents and staff safe during the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic.
The Gratitude Wall is located on the outer side of a circular room that serves as the Westmount Gardens library. It is centred in the front of the foyer area so staff will see the wall when they’re coming into work and when they’re leaving.
The wall has a large banner and is covered with blue hearts on which residents, their family members and staff have written encouraging messages. Blue is the colour representing health-care workers.
Steeves & Rozema long-term care and seniors living communities are following important protocols to keep residents and team members safe during the pandemic.
As part of these protocols, only “essential visitors” (who must be screened on site) are allowed entry to the homes.
Since most family members cannot visit Westmount Gardens during the pandemic, they have been sending their messages for the Gratitude Wall via e-mail. The e-mails are then transcribed onto the blue hearts.
Westmount Gardens life enrichment manager Deb Lines says everyone has been putting in a lot of effort to keep residents safe during the pandemic and the management team wanted to celebrate their commitment.
“We wanted to acknowledge that we consider all of our staff here our heroes,” she says.
