Rosewood resident turns 100, community parade turns up to help her celebrate

‘Well, isn’t this just so wonderful, all these people,’ Lillian Price says of the 50-plus cars and their occupants who drove by to wish her well

While Rosewood Village resident Lillian Price was unable to have a traditional birthday party at the Sarnia seniors living community due to restrictions in place in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic, she still had a celebration of her 100th birthday that she won’t forget.

On May 22 more than 50 cars – many of them classics – paraded around the outside of Rosewood Village to honour Lillian on her 100th birthday. Among the drivers who participated was Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley, who showed up in his red Ford Mustang convertible.

There was even a car Lillian remembered from her childhood; a Ford Model A.

Lillian sat outside Rosewood Village with staff – and a clown and a Snow White who were on hand for the celebration – while the cars pulled off Indian Road into the driveway and rode past her, the passengers waving to Lillian and wishing her a happy birthday.

“Well, isn’t this just so wonderful, all these people,” Lillian said as the cars drove past her.

Lillian and Rosewood Village executive director Jenica Tanguay gave interviews to several local media outlets, including YourTV Sarnia which aired a clip from the celebration that evening.

Blackburn Radio helped make the event a success by announcing Lillian’s birthday parade plans on air and invited the public to join.

Steeves & Rozema long-term care and seniors living communities are following important protocols to keep residents and team members safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of these protocols, only “essential visitors” (who must be screened on site) are allowed entry to the homes.

Jenica says despite the original plans for Lillian’s special birthday party falling through, the day could not have gone better for the resident.

“We had such a beautiful day; we are overjoyed by the amount of family, staff and community support,” she tells S&R Today. “We cannot thank everyone enough. Lillian had the best day.”
