Pictured above, Westmount Gardens resident Paul McPherson has raised $1,500 for Wellspring London and Region by walking Westmount’s halls.

Westmount Gardens resident Paul McPherson embarked on a walking journey earlier this month; a journey that has, at the time of this writing, raised $1,500 for Wellspring London and Region, an organization offering programs and support services to people who are living with cancer and their families.

Between Sept. 1 and Sept. 10, Paul walked the hallways at Westmount Gardens with his walker to raise money for Boardwalk’s Walk for Wellspring. He made the decision to raise money for the charity in mid-August and has today exceeded his original goal of raising $1,000.

Paul, 85, is a retired deputy fire chief with the London Fire Department. The father of four, grandfather of nine and great-grandfather of nine has lived at Westmount Gardens since February.

Paul has seen the benefits Wellspring provides people first-hand. He first became acquainted with Wellspring more than 20 years ago when his wife, Rosemarie, was receiving cancer treatment.

“Paul is very appreciative of all of the good work that Wellspring London does in this local community on behalf of cancer patients and their families, as well as for all of the ongoing care and support that his health-care team provides to him at Westmount Gardens,” Paul's daughter, Michelle LaCharite, tells S&R Today.

In 1999, Rosemarie and Michelle started the Hike for Hope, a group of walkers who raised money for Boardwalk’s Walk for Wellspring every year for 11 years.

Sadly, Rosemarie passed away that same year, but Paul never forgot the difference Wellspring made to Rosemarie and her family.

Michelle says Paul told her his loved ones were on his mind as he walked the halls at Westmount Gardens.

“(H)e was thinking of his wife, Rosemarie McPherson ... and his partner, Joanne Andrews, who has been together with Paul since 2014,” she says.
