Twin Lakes Village resident Lexie Scott says she had her “best birthday ever,” thanks to a surprise parade that was organized by her family and team members at the Sarnia seniors living community.

On Jan. 9, Lexie’s 89th birthday, 13 cars filled with her family members circled through the Twin Lakes Village parking lot to show their love and support, and to wish Lexie well on her special day.

There were honking horns, waves from Lexie’s loved ones and lots of signs wishing her a happy birthday.

Lexie’s family members also set up a birthday display of flowers and decorative butterflies on Twin Lakes Village’s front lawn for her to see from her room.

Lexie’s family members and the Twin Lakes Village team worked together to organize Lexie’s birthday surprise and to ensure all safety protocols were followed, says Kaylene Hagen, Twin Lakes Village’s fun co-ordinator.

The restrictions in place since the global COVID-19 pandemic began last March have made visiting challenging for people living at seniors living communities and their families, so events like this are important, Kaylene says.

“It’s incredible to see what people are willing to do to spread a little joy during this time,” she says.
