With protocols in effect to keep everyone safe during the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Lanark Heights team was able to host memorable Christmas and new year’s celebrations for people living and working at the Kitchener, Ont. long-term care community.

Starting with the Maple neighbourhood on Dec. 7 and ending with the Chestnut neighbourhood on Dec. 11, residents and team members enjoyed buffets prepared by the Lanark Heights food services team.

Some of the items featured in the buffet were pizza fingers, quiches, bacon-wrapped water chestnuts, meatballs, vegetables and assorted desserts, including yule logs, a traditional Christmas favourite.

“There were great reviews from residents and staff,” says Melissa Abdul, Lanark Heights’ acting life enrichment manager.

Dec. 31 saw New Year’s Eve celebrations in each of Lanark Heights’s neighbourhoods, Melissa says.

The food services team made finger foods and dessert for everyone to enjoy. Music was playing in the neighbourhoods and sparkling juice was served to toast the start of 2021.

Melissa says the event was fun for everyone.

“Our residents enjoyed the festivities, and we finished with a thank-you speech, followed by the countdown and singing Auld Lang Syne,” she says.
