Southgate Residence registered practical nurse (RPN) Becky Broughton and executive director Kim Farfanick received some praise from residents last week in honour of National Nursing Week.
Staff members asked residents at the Kingsville retirement community to write down their thoughts on Broughton and Farfanick and the work they do for people.
Residents happily agreed.
Once the paper with residents’ thoughts had been passed around the home it was presented to Broughton and Farfanick. Activity director Holly O'Neil then faxed the paper to S&R Today, asking for a story highlighting residents’ kind words.
“Kim and Becky are both extremely dedicated and committed to the quality of life for Southgate residents,” write residents Don and Elizabeth Parsons.
“They are very caring and attentive,” notes Rose Warkentin.
“I have lived at Southgate for one year and my health is 100 per cent better due to the knowledge of nursing that Kim and Becky have devoted to me — thank you,” says Mable Reimer.
O’Neil also wanted to share her thoughts on Broughton and Farfanick.
“They are fantastic — they are so diligent to their jobs, they are magnificent nurses who are always there for the residents,” she tells S&R Today. “And they are compassionate and empathetic. They’re beautiful people all around.”
Staff members showed their appreciation for Farfanick by presenting her with a gift certificate for Cindy’s Garden, her favourite store in Kingsville.
National Nursing Week ran May 7-13. The week, which is promoted by the Canadian Nurses Association, is set aside to acknowledge nurses for their work. Retirement homes, long-term care homes and other health-care settings dedicate the week every year to acknowledge nursing teams.
