Rosewood Manor staff members organized a Mother’s Day tea at the Sarnia retirement community on Saturday that residents are still talking about.
“It was a lovely time for everyone; we all truly do appreciate your hard work and preparation, as well as your dedication and care for the residents at Rosewood Manor on a daily basis,” writes resident Betty Gordon in a thank-you card she gave staff.
Her daughter Kathy writes a message to activity director Bev James: “Thank you for the lovely Mother’s Day tea. You’re truly an asset to the manor. Your kindness, enthusiasm and encouragement is always noticed and so appreciated.”
James, executive director Janice Horley, administrative assistant Leeanne Vernon and Barb Handy, who works in the home’s kitchen decorated and prepared the food served at the event.
For James and other staff members, the effort involved in organizing events like this is all in a day’s work, but the appreciation is still flattering, says the activity director.
“I like doing the big events; I like for the residents to be happy,” James tells S&R Today.
“It’s nice to see them with their families and they feel proud. I think that’s my favourite part. . . . The ladies are still talking about it.”
Staff members prepared plates of sandwiches, buns, shrimp, veggies and salads for the roughly 70 people attending. The team members also decorated the home in a pink and white theme, with flower balloons covering the activity area.
As activity director, James is a one-woman department at the home, but she says the success of the Mother’s Day tea was only made possible through the teamwork showed by everyone.
“They all pulled together and it went off like a charm,” she says.
