A door-decorating contest and a Halloween party were among the top highlights on the October calendar at the Village on the Thames.

Throughout the month, the Chatham-Kent senior living community hosted a door-decorating contest for residents.

Residents decorated their doors with a variety of Halloween designs using their own materials and “had a ton of fun being creative,” says Village on the Thames marketing and community services co-ordinator Ruby Gallant.

On Oct. 30, residents were given ballots to determine first-, second- and third-place winners. First-place honours went to resident D. Martin.

On Oct. 31, team members organized a Halloween party for the residents with staff and management handing out candy throughout the afternoon.

Residents and team members dressed in their favourite Halloween costumes and everyone had fun, Ruby says.

There were also Halloween-themed games in the activity room for residents and team members to enjoy.

Entertainer John Mills was on hand to play guitar and sing for residents while they enjoyed their Halloween treats.

There was also a movie afternoon in October where residents watched Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 horror classic The Birds.

“I served popcorn and juice for those who were brave enough to come out and watch it,” Ruby says.
