Halloween is one day away and thanks to residents harnessing their creative talents, the Village on the Thames will be ready with an array of pumpkins decorated with faces.
On Oct. 28, the Chatham-Kent seniors living community hosted an event called Village on the Thames Treat Day. While part of the day – as the title suggests – was dedicated to offering a variety of snacks to residents, there was also a crafting component.
Given that Halloween is just around the corner, it was fitting residents dedicate some time to decorating pumpkins. As part of an activity led by Diamond Zelina, the Village's fun co-ordinator, residents painted face designs of their choice on pumpkins.
Designs ranged from the classic jack-o'-lantern face, featuring triangle eyes and square teeth, to pumpkins with smiley faces, to the face of a woman with blonde hair.
Hilda, Doris, Lyn and Theresa were the residents who painted pumpkins.
While Village on the Thames Treat Day was primarily an event for snacks and socialization, residents turned up for different reasons, Diamond notes.
“Some residents came just for the popcorn and potato chips with drinks, while others came just for the pumpkin painting, and some came for both,” she says.
The painted pumpkins are now on display at the Village for the duration of the Halloween season.
