Lanark Heights life enrichment team members have a flair for coming up with fun, creative events and programs that residents enjoy, and recent events they have organized at the Kitchener long-term care community demonstrate their talent.
Parties are always a big hit with Lanark Heights residents, so team members came up with an idea that provided a good time and brought back some fond memories: a 1950s-themed rock 'n' roll party.
“We had live music, people dressing up in 1950s costumes and, with Gauri, our food services manager, we made our own diner-style french fries and served root beer,” Karla Verdesoto, Lanark Heights' life enrichment manager, tells S&R Today.
Karla and the Lanark Heights life enrichment team also hosted a floral workshop for residents where flower arrangements were made for the 1950s party.
These flower arrangements were made to look like pink milkshakes and were used to decorate tables at the event. The pink-and-white floral arrangements were placed inside milkshake glasses and topped with cherry decorations.
Lanark Heights also celebrated love on Valentine's Day by providing residents with a happy hour. Residents enjoyed a special cotton-candy drink and had their photos taken. Team members created a game for residents called Heartbreaker where participants threw a ball at a heart-shaped target to get a candy.
In the evening, residents enjoyed a special menu that included red velvet cake for dessert.
Karla says the events were well received by residents and their loved ones.
“It was total success; residents and family members really enjoyed it,” she says.
