High-quality meals are among the top priorities for residents of long-term care communities, and to help create the best mealtime experiences possible, Lanark Heights has established the Lunch Club.

Every Lunch Club event will feature a special meal created by the Kitchener long-term care community's food services team, while the life enrichment team is tasked with organizing the dining area.

Residents are already treated to a Breakfast Club program, but since spring is here, team members wanted to provide a gourmet experience for the noontime meal to go with the changing of the seasons, explains Karla Verdesoto.

Karla, Lanark Heights' life enrichment manager, says residents signed up for the inaugural Lunch Club event ahead of time. When the big day came, food services manager Gauri Bassi and her team created a lunch that included stuffed green peppers and potato salad, with tuxedo cake for dessert.

Drinks, including wine and coffee, were also served with the meal.

Karla says there was music accompanying the residents' lunch, and everyone enjoyed the food and the socializing that came with the event.

“Our residents really enjoyed (the meal), and we had some jazz music in the background to set the mood,” she tells S&R Today.

“I have to say, it was really nice that residents from every floor experienced a special time and chatted with other residents they normally don't see.”
