The Trillium Villa life enrichment team organized events in May during the week of Mother's Day to celebrate all the women living at the Sarnia long-term care community – with the major highlights being the “goddess photo shoot” and a champagne social.

During the champagne social, residents and their loved ones were able to reminisce and share time with each other while celebrating women all over the world between sips of champagne, says Trillium Villa life enrichment manager Tara Klompstra.

The photo shoot proved to be an engaging way for residents to create lasting memories – exactly the sort of outcome team members were hoping to achieve, she adds.

“Trillium Villa understood the assignment this Mother's Day, creating a week of events (to celebrate women),” Tara tells S&R Today.

The “goddess photo shoot” was a chance for the women of Trillium Villa to get dressed in their favourite clothes and accessories and have glamour photos taken.

Spiritual adviser Marcy McGlade, social worker Emma Crosbie and resident service co-ordinator Essie Lopes worked together to ensure residents' hair, nails, makeup and outfits were “perfect” for each picture, Tara says.

Each resident was able to choose how they wanted their hair done and which props were used, she adds.

“It was an absolute honour to capture the beauty and history of these amazing women in our home,” Marcy says. “With the help of Emma and Essie, we were able to give families a special Mother's Day portrait of their loved one, and so far the feedback has been wonderful.”

The photos will be displayed throughout the home, Tara notes, adding that exemplary teamwork ensured residents and their loved ones would have lasting memories.

“This event had everyone in the life enrichment department working cohesively to create an opportunity (that was) completely new, while still maintaining the traditional elements of a Mother's Day social,” she says.

Essie shares her favourite part of the photo shoot.

“The highlight of my day was watching the women pick through props, try things on, laughing like nobody's watching and just enjoying the process of being pampered,” she says.

“It was truly a beautiful thing to be a part of. I really enjoyed spending time with residents making the props, especially the glittery crown.”
