A monthly outing for a cup of coffee and a doughnut has blossomed into a meaningful community partnership for Trillium Villa Nursing Home and a local Tim Hortons.
Once a month, a rotating group of residents and life enrichment team members from the Sarnia long-term care community head to the Tim Hortons on Murphy Rd. for a coffee break.
When the group from Trillium arrives, Tim Hortons staff members already have a large table reserved for them, and everyone working at the doughnut shop is always courteous, residents and team members say.
Resident Robert Arseneau says the latest trip left a big impression on him from the moment he entered the shop.
“It was great,” he tells S&R Today. “We felt really important that the staff at Tim Hortons made a sign and reserved the table for us.”
Medium double-doubles and Boston cream doughnuts were the favourite orders during the outing, notes resident service co-ordinator Essie Lopes.
And then there was the conversation and banter, Essie adds. Residents and team members chatted about how Tim Hortons coffee has been a staple their whole lives, she says, noting the conversation ended in a classic Canadian way: talking about the weather.
“The snow was supposed to come, (and) it was one of the first chilly days of the year,” Essie says.
Essie says residents and team members value the community partnership between Trillium Villa and the Tim Hortons store.
“Tim Hortons is a wonderful community partner in Sarnia,” she says. “Big thanks to the staff at Murphy Rd. Tim Hortons for always making the experience delightful for us.”
