Celebrating the holidays at Westmount Gardens spans more than a month each year, and this season was no exception, with residents and team members at the London, Ont. long-term care community taking part in a wide variety of in-house programs and festive outings.
As always, starting Nov. 12, the day after Remembrance Day, team members got to work decorating the front entrance with so many lights and decorations it gave the impression visitors were “walking into Santa's workshop,” says Adnan Resh, Westmount's life enrichment manager.
Holiday programs and outings this year included a trip to a market, three visits from Santa, live music, a performance by the Maple and Spruce Music Academy, baking programs, church services, a Swiss Chalet lunch and visits to Winter Wonderland, the themed Christmas lighting featured in both Westmount courtyards.
Adnan notes that each holiday season the team looks for creative ways to refresh its programming to ensure residents experience something new.
“I love seeing variety, and I find that it makes us stand out, but most importantly, the residents and families love it,” he tells S&R Today.
In the days leading up to Christmas Day, life enrichment team members were busy wrapping presents to ensure every resident had a gift to open on the morning of Dec. 25.
“The life enrichment department has not failed to please, making sure the holiday spirit is kept alive and that residents still believe in Christmas,” Adnan says.
“The holiday season is always very special, and we want to make it as cozy and full of spirit as possible. The residents love seeing all of these holiday programs, engaging and having so much fun. I can see all the joy in the residents and the awe of the programs we do.”
Adnan is thanking team members for their hard work throughout the holiday season.
“I want to thank the life enrichment team for doing such an amazing job making sure residents' lives are full of meaning and joy,” he says. “I can see the hard work the staff do across all departments and how much joy they bring, especially around Christmas time.”
