Christmas luncheons create festive atmosphere at Lanark Heights
Week-long celebrations unite residents, families and staff

Just before Christmas, Lanark Heights hosted its traditional Christmas luncheons for all five of the Kitchener long-term care community's neighbourhoods, bringing residents, families and staff together to share in the holiday spirit.
Each home area had its own luncheon on a different day, notes Karla Verdesoto, Lanark Heights' life enrichment manager.
“Families were warmly welcomed to join the celebrations, and staff dressed up for the occasion, creating a joyful holiday atmosphere,” Karla tells S&R Today.
“Once residents had enjoyed their meals, staff members also had the opportunity to taste the special luncheon in each home area.”
The festive menu, created by the food services team led by manager Gauri Bassi, featured a wide variety of favourites, including a cheese tray, pasta salad, torpedo shrimp, poached salmon, bacon-wrapped chestnuts, honey-garlic chicken wings, Italian beef meatballs, macaroni and cheese wedges, cauliflower bites, Christmas cake, fresh fruit, and fruit punch.
The bacon-wrapped chestnuts and seafood platters were especially popular throughout the week, Karla says.
Managers from across the home worked together to help prepare and serve the buffets, which were planned by Gauri and Lanark Heights administrator Hildy Nickel.
Karla says the luncheons succeeded in their goal of bringing together everyone connected to Lanark Heights in a meaningful and memorable way.
“It was a truly special week that brought residents, families and staff together to celebrate the season,” she says.
“The Christmas luncheons truly showcased teamwork, holiday spirit and our commitment to providing a warm, family-centred environment for our residents.”
