Trillium Villa's Father's Day celebrations came with what one team member describes as a Batmanesque “bang, pop and pow” when residents of the Sarnia long-term care community suited up in capes and superhero costumes for a themed photo shoot.
Life enrichment manager Tara Klompstra says the Trillium Villa team wanted to celebrate the men – all of whom are superheroes in their own way – by organizing a day filled with capes, laughter and a strong sense of nostalgia.
While Father's Day was on June 21, the team decided to begin celebrating the men early on June 12.
“To celebrate our male residents, we hosted a superhero photo shoot to honour the incredible legacies the men of Trillium Villa have built over their lifetimes,” Tara tells S&R Today.
“Every male resident in the home posed proudly, proving that strength and heroism grow finer with age. From former farmers and tradesmen to fathers, grandfathers and mentors, each photo reminds us that true superheroes live right here in our community.”
Tara says all participating residents enjoyed their time, with the event leaving a lasting impression on some.
“I never participate in programming, but this was really fun and I'm glad I came,” one resident told her.
Marcy McGlade, Trillium Villa's spiritual care provider and in-house photographer, says the home's 2025 Mother's Day photo shoot, which saw residents pose for glamour shots, was so successful that the team decided 2026 would be dedicated to celebrating the men in a similar way.
“Events like this do more than just create fantastic photos; they preserve legacies and spark deep connections across generations,” Marcy says.
Photos of the men in their superhero costumes are being displayed in the home to share the moment.
“The Trillium Villa team creates events that preserve the dignity of each resident while ensuring they feel valued and celebrated,” Tara says.
“This is just one small way we can make the men in our home feel a little more powerful and youthful.”
In addition to the superhero photo shoot, the men of Trillium Villa celebrated Father's Day with family and friends on the weekend in the back courtyard with a patio pub and yard games.
“Life enrichment team members plan activities so that every milestone is a shared celebration, inviting families to join and build new memories together,” Tara says.
